School Achievements
ISA
The international dimension the curriculum in VCB has been recognised by the College achieving the British Council International School Award and students and staff in the College are committed to developing and maintaining links with other educational institutions on a local, national and global level.
Specialist School StatusThe College was delighted to receive Specialist School status for Science in May 2009 and we are excited by the prospect of innovation and improvement which will result from implementation. Targets are listed within the bid for 3 distinct areas, Science, Whole School and Community & Business.
One of the central aims of the specialist school programme is to achieve whole school improvement and to raise performance and participation in Science. Pupils at each key stage have had the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities and increase their understanding of STEM-related careers. The additional funding from the Specialist School status has enabled us to purchase ICT and CAD equipment including a laser cutter.
successful application
Throughout the 2 year programme, pupils within the College and our partner schools will have plenty of opportunity to explore, investigate and discover Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics subjects in a stimulating environment. All of the activities have been carefully chosen to provide a fantastic opportunity for pupils to develop their team-building skills in addition to improving their creative thinking and problem solving skills.

During the Spring term, the College was delighted to be awarded the Becta ICT mark in recognition of our commitment to using technology to improve our overall effectiveness and efficiency.
The use of technology within the College was assessed under the areas of:
- Leadership and management;
- Professional development;
- Extending opportunities for learning; and
One of the curricular strengths highlighted during the review process was the College’s use of the VLE which has enabled pupils and parents to access online resources, complete surveys and submit work electronically. Becta's self-review framework has made a significant contribution to the College’s overall processes of self-review and has been crucial in celebrating achievement and planning for further development.
