What have the Romans (and the Greeks) done for us? Classical Civilisation offers you the chance to find out!
At AS-level you will be introduced to two significant aspects of the classical (Greek and Roman) world. We study Homer’s epic poem the Odyssey, and the life and times of Cicero, a thinker, lawyer and politician who lived through the fall of the Roman Republic.
At A2 we study the masterpieces of the Greek tragic theatre and the life of Alexander the Great whose conquests reached from Greece to India.
No prior knowledge of the ancient world or of Greek and Latin is needed. This subject combines very well with Art, English Literature, Government & Politics, History, Theatre Studies and many others. You will learn how to read primary sources, think critically, and argue a case – and you may come to a new perspective on society today.
