On Friday 17th April VCB’s Product Design students visited The Creativity Hub, (an award winning product design studio) to take part in a Creativity Masterclass. The company make products that foster imagination, empathy and self esteem. The Creativity Hub has two key products; Rory’s Story Cubes and The Extraordinaire's Design Studio.
Rory’s Story Cubes is the iconic storytelling game that fosters imagination and connection across generations. The company started out making a creative problem solving tool combining evocative symbols and story making to fire the imagination. It has evolved into a universal story generator, satisfying an almost tribal need for storytelling.
The Extraordinaire's Design Studio is inspiring a new generation of empathic designers and inventors through wildly imaginative design challenges. If you've ever wondered what it’s like to invent a music player for a robot, a remote control for a pirate, or cooking utensil for a vampire teen, this is definitely the game for you. The pupil had the opportunity to test the game on the day and they were amazed by their own wildly imaginative inventions.
The pupils were also given the opportunity to meet the Co-founders, Rory O’Connor and Anita Murphy, who outlined the story behind the birth of the Creativity Hub. The entrepreneurs also spoke to the pupils about the design process and provided a glimpse of some ‘top-secret’ new product ranges. The VCB girls were really inspired by Rory and Anita’s story, the vibrant design studio and the amazing products.
The pupils involved had a wonderful experience, with feedback from all girls extremely positive;
Our trip to Creativity Hub was very worthwhile and an amazing experience, especially considering my love for design. I learned many new techniques I will be able to apply to my future design tasks in school, which will make designing a lot easier! I was taught that no design starts off perfect, and that the design process involves a lot of perfecting and changing along the way. This was the main lesson I took from our time in the Creativity Hub's Studio. I had a memorable time and would love the chance to go back in the near future!
