Ski Trip to USA

13 - 20 February 2014

This year our ski trip consisted of 63 pupils and 6 staff. We travelled to New Hampshire in the USA, flying from Dublin to Boston and then north to the picturesque town of Waterville which is in the White Mountain range. We stayed in a quaint little hotel, which was called the Snowy Owl Inn where the staff were very helpful.

The ski resort was a 10-minute ride in a ‘Bart Simpson bus’ along the valley’s winding roads. At the resort we put on our skis met up with our instructors and then off for a day’s work on the slopes. With the snow conditions being so good our beginners made excellent progress and quickly left the gentle nursery slopes behind to tackle the more challenging runs of green and blue with Mr Donaghy and Miss Lynch leading the way. The more experienced skiers roamed across the whole mountain area, covering the reds and blacks with great panache.

We had five full days of skiing in excellent powder snow conditions and enjoyed great evenings out too. This included, shopping, tubing and ice-skating and also a quiz, a games and awards night in our hotel. On our last day we were up early and after breakfast went to Boston for another day’s shopping before going to the airport to fly home.

We loved the trip. Our teachers looked after us so well and the instructors were really encouraging and helped us improve right from the beginning. The skiing was great even when the temperature dropped one day to -13 degrees. Off the slope there was a lot to do too and the staff worked hard to make it the best trip possible, and it was! We would love to go again, a worthwhile and amazing trip.

Next year it’s off to Italy with our year 9 and 10s and we are already very excited and sure that it will be every bit as great.
