The contents of this blog were written by a Year 8 girl who offered to blog about her experiences at Victoria College.
School is very busy at the moment as the summer exams are next week. These are my first exams but they are not scary as our teachers are preparing us well. Our Latin teacher is giving us voluntary classes for fifteen minutes at the end of lunch for three days. this will be very useful as I will be able to ask her about anything we don't understand.
In ICT we have been practising making Powerpoints about where we live. Next week we have to present it to the whole class on our own! Hopefully it will go well. Wish me luck!!! :-)
In Technology this week we have been making toys out of wood and plastic. It is great fun because we filed the wood with sand paper and drilled holes into the two rectangular pieces of wood. Then we hammered a dowel - a thin cylinder of wood - into the wooden sides to join them together.
It is really fun because I never did technology at my primary school, I have learnt so much more than I thought I would and my teacher, Mr Winning is really nice and great fun.
This week in science we have been using microscopes to look at different cells. It was the first time we had ever used a microscope and so we learnt how to use it before we studied the cells. Then we looked at onion cells, animal cells, cheek cells and plant cells.
Today in school we had Home Economics (HE) in Period 4, just before lunch. In HE Maeve and I were partners and we made Pancakes. I think I might have slightly over done it though, as I ended up eating 10 of them. Ooooppps! Although I had so many, I ate them for lunch as a treat and they were very tasty. I am still full after 4 hours!
This has been a really busy week in school. In Art we were introduced to different styles of printing. Printing is completely new to me and something I really enjoy. We started the project by drawing some leaves from real life to improve our drawing skills. Then we drew on polystyrene and produced a block print. I really liked this technique. It was great fun. I will ask my teacher to upload some of the artwork. So watch this space!!
In maths we are starting a new project next week. I am looking forward to the challenge. I must go now as I have a lot of homework to do.
In school at the minute pupils are being selected by different departments to help out on Open Day. I am helping out in the Home Economics department. This is one of my favourite subjects.
During Open Day we will be making food for you to sample. So make sure you keep the 25th January free and visit my school. Open Day starts at 10am-1pm. So make sure you come along and bring your friends. I promise it will be great fun and there will be a lot of things for you to see and do in all departments.
Happy New Year
How was your Christmas? I had a great time I got lots of lovely gifts from my friends and family. My favourite present was a ticket to see One Direction yes you read that correctly One Direction in May I cannot wait. I am so excited!!!
I must say I really missed my new friends at Victoria College over the Christmas holidays, especially my friend from Hong Kong (she boards at Victoria). She went home to see her family over the holiday period.
However it was great this week to catch up with all my other friends and to get back into school life again. This term I have decided to go to a few more Extra-Curricular activities. There is a lot on offer but I do hope to join the Hockey Club and the Greek Club as it also seems really good fun.
Okay I must go as Scripture Union is on today and I don’t want to miss it.
Have a great week x
On Tuesday I started to get really nervous for my first day at school. When I got up I put on my uniform and at that point I was scared and excited at the same time. When I got into the car and we drove to school I was scared to go in. when I first went in I got lost but then I found where I was going it was all good. The next day was a lot better and I didn’t get lost and the day after that was even better.

I didn’t know much about Victoria. I was the only girl from my school. But Mrs Robinson and Mrs Woods were so nice and helpful. I am really happy with choosing Victoria College; they really go out of their way to make you feel welcome.

On Wednesday I felt anxious about starting Victoria College, because I came from England. I knew no-one. As soon as I took my first step through the door, lots of emotions were swimming around my mind; nervous, scared, vain popping, heart pounding…However, I have made loads of friends. I’m also looking forward to meeting new people and learning new things.

Before I started Victoria College on Tuesday 27th I was so excited that kept telling everyone “I am going to Victoria tomorrow” over and over again. I was very nervous in the morning but when I walked through the gates I was so proud. I am not nervous instead I feel happy. I am looking forward to the London Trip and joining the Netball Club.

On my first day of school I was very nervous but also quite excited because there was only one person I knew in my class who went to my old school. Once I sat down and started to talk to a few girls I realised going to a new school wasn’t that bad. My form teacher is called Mrs Hogg and I now have lots of good friends.

Before I started Victoria, I was really nervous. The first person I met was Mrs Crockard. She told me were to go. When I walked into the classroom I met all my new friends. I am really looking forward to meeting my class teachers and studying new subjects.
